That awkward moment when someone says they’re an “equalist” but not a feminist.

A square is a rectangle, but a recatangle is not a square. Feminist (authentic, unlike most on tumblr) = egalitarian. Egalitarian does not necessarily mean Feminist, though, as it’s just a facet of the movement. Antifeminists are usually egalitaians tired of a constant stream of hate and thought policing coming from Feminists. Not feminism, feminists. An important distinction.

Alright, alright I’ll take the bait. The original sarcasm stems from me constantly hearing this from anti-feminists. You people love to say that feminism is fine but the feminists are flawed. Where is this magical place you are finding all these nutty feminists?! Was it some crazy lady you met at a party? A wacko professor or some text you read by Mary Daly? I just don’t get where you are finding these people unless you’re just seriously misunderstanding them, and since it seems like you’re basing Tumblr as your judge of all feminists, things can often get very misconstrued online. I’m just at a loss and, in all seriousness, please point these people out to me because I want to know who you’re talking to that is screwing up your idea of feminists because they probably aren’t real feminists themselves. Who is thought-policing and what thoughts are they trying to police? Now, for example, if you call me getting mad at you for making a rape joke or for calling a promiscuous woman a slut “thought-policing,” then I guess we just have bigger problems than simple misunderstandings.

First, most of the Tumblr “Feminists” aren’t. At least not by the standards of waves one and two. But they all call themselves feminists. And they mostly agree. Meaning that the movement has changed. Into what I’m/we’re talking about. Second, now would you propose I accomplish this? Would you like me to:

• Videotape
• Audio-Record
• Transcribe

my encounters with these people? The way you phrase this, it sounds like that’s what you demand. In that case, I demand reciprocation. Everything you post from now on must be in the format you request. For purposes of validity, I assure you.

And the “thought policing” thing. Have you ever told someone to shut up? Or used your pissoff to, I don’t know, do this:
